Muflon Dub Soundsystem meets Irie-D - Mission Ignition

 

Muflon Dub Soundsystem returns to Dubophonic Records with Mission Ignition, a powerful new collaboration featuring Greek vocalist Irie-D. This inspiring single marks the beginning of a fresh creative partnership between the artists, with more productions already in the works and an upcoming album on the horizon.

Mission Ignition is dedicated to all the people around the world who continue to make a positive difference through their actions, compassion, and courage. In times where hope can feel distant, the song shines a light on those who still care deeply for their communities, neighbours, society, and the planet itself. It is a message of respect and gratitude to the brothers and sisters who keep working for change, often quietly but with great strength and determination.

Inspired by the mission of spreading Jah word and good vibration, the lyrics speak about staying active, awake and committed to a higher purpose despite negativity and oppression. “Mission Ignition” is a tribute to all those who continue to bring light, warmth and hope to the world through their actions and energy.

Musically, the release delivers an uplifting roots reggae atmosphere with a warm, conscious vibe and a strong spiritual energy. Staying true to the sound of Muflon Dub Soundsystem, the release also includes a dub version packed with spacious echoes, rich textures, and immersive effects.

Irie-D is already well known to the Dubophonic audience through her previous work with Soul Fire and on a special dubplate release with Dub Cmd. Here she joins forces with Muflon Dub Soundsystem to spread a positive and conscious message through music. The release also features Polish opera singer Arleta, an artist with numerous international achievements whose unique vocal style brings a fresh and unexpected dimension to reggae music and her contribution adds a distinctive emotional depth to the production

iGL & Alecho - Revolution

iGL & Alecho  is an electronic music project from Athens, Greece, consisting of Konstantinos & Alexandra. The duo made its first appearance on Dubophonic Records during its live session at the Lockdown Online Festival, while their track “Time Capsule” was included in the compilation “Explorations In Dub / Lockdown dub” in year 2020. They also released in 2021 their debut album “From A Droplet”.

Their new EP is entitled “Revolution” and includes six tracks in a fine dubwise style, fusing roots reggae and dub music with electro-dub and blurring the musical boundaries. We have also included a special remix by Indamouse. It is available for free download from Bandcamp.

 

Dutchie Gold meets Kaleya - Been There And Seen

Kaleya was born in Athens, Greece and started his music journey as a guitarist. He has been involved in various bands and projects, such as Bongo Tchaka, Musinair, Kilimanjaro and as a bass player in Remi & The Road and Los Dos O Mas. He is aslo DJ playing at various reggae/dub events and is a member of Reggaewise Selectors, Origins Soundsystem and Bliondy’s Mini Sound. In 2018, he started hosting his own podcast Kosmos Dub Factory on Kosmos FM, one of the most popular radio stations in Greece.

Dutchie Gold was born in Mandeville/Jamaica and started working with the sound systems of his neighborhood as a teenager. He worked with Junior Reid, Shaggy Dread, General Trees, Professor Nuts & more. His recording career started in 1991 with Gold Gun and followed by works with Junior Reid label, The Washington DC based label 2 Tuff, and the legendary New York sound system/ label Massive B. In 1994, he recorded his first album entitled Dutchie Gold in Germany, which led him to work with artists like Error Dunkley, Michael Prophet, Nado Ranks & others. Further tracks were released on German Reggae Compilations and in 2006 he released the album Mission To Righteousness.

Wosui is the Deep Dub solo project of Gabriel Mentis (Reggaewise, Urban Danja), born in 1987 and based in Athens, Greece. Having a classical music studies background, playing the violin and participating in school bands, he discovered cubase and started making his own beats. From 2008 to 2018 he was the member Dub Riots alongside iGL, a Reggae-Dub producing and live duo. In 2012 he started the project Wosui, a journey to the world of deep echoes, dub and soundsystem aesthetics, along with low frequencies basslines. He has released music for labels such as Dub Communication, Iron Shirt, Dubophonic, Indigo Movement and others. He has organized many events and headlined all over Greece, including international guests such as Radikal Guru, Leon Switch, Mexican Stepper, Skarra Mucci and many others.

Dutchie and Kaleya met in 2020 when Dutchie visited Greece for an event with El Paso Soundsystem. The night before the event, they recorded the track at Bliondy’s Sound Station. The following months, 2 dub versions were created, following the original version. Wosui then joined the family to produce a remix and a dub version of the original track.

Soul Fire - Wake Up Your Lion

Lee “Scratch” Perry’s 70‘s classic “Soul Fire” was the ignition for the songwriter and singer Vassilis Savopoulos a.k.a “Jah Smiley” from Thessaloniki, to form in the beginning of 90’s “Soul Fire”, the first reggae band in Greece. It has been almost thirty years since then and probably no one could have ever imagined, that this reggae band would record their first album with the internationally renowned dub producer Mad Professor in 2005 and play as the opening act for the legendary band of Bob Marley, "The Wailers”. Well-known artists participated in that first album: drummer “Sinclair”, member of Lee Scratch Perry’s band “Roboticks”, Aisha on the backing vocals, Cofi and Mafia from “Mafia & Fluxy” plus MC Fredi Kruga.

Wake Up Your Lion is Soul Fire’s 2nd album and was originally released back in 2013 on Soul Fire Music. We feel honoured to be able to digitally distribute this album through Dubophonic Records, eight years after its original release. The album is mixed and mastered by Professor Skank and includes fourteen tracks ina roots and culture style. With classics like “Rasta People”, “Wake Up Your Lion” and “Rootsman Skanking”, this album is without doubt an important piece of reggae culture in Greece.

iGL & Alecho - From A Droplet

iGL & Alecho is an electronic music project from Athens, Greece, consisting of Konstantinos & Alexandra. The duo made its first appearance on Dubophonic Records during its live session at the Lockdown Online Festival, while their track “Time Capsule” was included in the compilation “Explorations In Dub / Lockdown dub” in year 2020.

From A Droplet” is their debut album release. It is the story of a small atomic structure and its journey to the stars. So significant was this molecule’s appearance it would change worlds and be the matrix of life on this planet. It is a conceptual dub album revolving around the journey of life, from the water to the stars, as it is described through the titles of the tracks, but also through the inspiring artwork. 

 

A special moment in the album is the track “Limbs”, which includes a melody from Barrington Levy’s “Shine eye Girl”, which is completely reworked. We have also included as a bonus a bonus remix by Indamouse.

Dub Cmd & Soul Fire - Blessed

Fast forward in year 2019, Soul Fire visit Cyprus for a performance at the Reggae Sunjam Festival and thanks to the organisers of the festival, local and international artists who were also participating had the chance to meet each other and build a bond. Artists became friends, new connections were established and good things fired up some new collaborations. The friendhip worked as a boiler, cooking some brand new vibrations!

God, love, inner self, consciousness and justice could be the keywords for someone searching behind Soul Fire’s songs. «Marley was the light and Burning Spear was the mystic spirit of reggae for me»  says Jah Smiley. Nuff respect Aki Mittoo for the spiritual melodica cut, adding the missing link to this conscious journey and to Versioncos  for the amazing artwork!

Dub Riots / Indamouse / Bluez - Creation

Dub Riots were formed in 2008 in Athens, Greece. They have been featured on a few compilations on Dubophonic (Explorations in Dub 2013, Legal Rmx 2016 and Reggae Sunjam Vol.I 2017 and Vol II 2018) and also on the Greek label Reggaewise with their first EP State Of Life in 2013. 

Having performed live as a dub duo all over Greece, but also in Cyprus, Belgium and Switzerland, it was about time to release their second EP and their first one on the label, doing their own dub-manipulations of some of the greatest reggae anthems. 

On this release they meet Indamouse aka 3voice, another member of the Reggaewise crew based as well in Athens; a selector and producer influenced by the Jamaican soundsystem culture and the UK stepper style. Alongside the mystical sound of Bluez on the melodica, they offer a fresh conception of well established tunes like Creation, Rat A Cut Bottle and A Still Tongue, tribute to the foundation artists of reggae music. Sunjaman - Outta Here

Sunjaman is an upcoming producer from Athens, Greece. Being a musician & bass player himself, he has always been exploring the sound of the bass, trying to travel into new territories on his effort to establish his own sound. On the process of exploring the bass territory, he had joined many bands and created numerous side-projects, from punk to hiphop. 

 
Inspired by the originality of roots dub and influenced by the modern dub steppa scene, he began to produce and public his tracks online. He made his debut release in 2013 and continued with many collaborations and releases.

 

The style of Sunjaman cannot be described by only one musical genre. It combines many elements of bass music, such as dubstep, jungle, steppa, roots, dubwise. This is eminent in this 7-track EP, consisting of three original tracks and four alternative cuts.

Nuff respect to Northical from the Greek band/soundsystem Kako Synapantima for vocalising “Heavyweight Sound”, as well as Manwel T from Dubkey Records for his version of “Outta Here”.  Big shout out goes also to Jungle Raiders for a very energetic jungle cut of “Witness the day”. Various Artists - Explorations in Dub

The first compilation of dub-o-phonic is a musical journey to some unknown areas of dub music. Compiled by Dub Thomas, “Explorations in Dub” tries to find the hidden elements of dub music in musical genres, where under normal circumstances no dub is existent. This release might not comply with the “conventional” dub reggae as we know it. Being the tenth release of the label, Dub Thomas selects tracks with a strong experimental musical vibe, staying truthful to the future sound of the label.

The compilation includes seventeen tracks from artists scattered in the various corners of the globe, from Cyprus to the French West Indies: Daidalos One (CY), SXtheMadArtist (CY), Ras Robin Dennis (CY), Dub-I (RUS), Dub Riots (GR), Green Glow (MEX), Hernibernie (BEL), Knoto (JP), Mr Mefistou (PR), Negro Pirana (MEX), Rakoon (FR), Red Barrio (ES), Roots Dubbing Project (BRA), The Dubbstyle (ARG), Twixymillia (FWI) and Dub Across Borders (DEN).

Included in this compilation is Dub-I’s “Rididub Master” in a new extended version, serving not only as a musical flashback to our first release, but also as a starting point for the dubs to follow, while the jazz/ambient tracks of Hernibernie and SXtheMadArtist (the cover art designer of the release) are perhaps at the highest innovation point. Knoto manages to strip a famous reggae song down to its basic beat elements keeping the melody as a sweet buzz in your head. Daidalos One offers an atmospheric intermission, Ras Robbin Denis fuses an ethnic/ambient feel, Dub Across Borders blips and clicks, Negro Pirana dubs the blues, Mr Mefistou builds up slowly a dubbed step, Green Glow steps it up, Twixymillia rewinds it, while Dub Riots, Roots Dubbing Project, The Dubbstyle, Rakoon and Red Barrio transform irie melodies into experimental dubscapes.
