Mr Zebre ft. Rebel-I - Legal Rmxs

The original version of LEGAL has been released back in 2012 in Mexico by Mr Zebre and Rebel-I, receiving some mad feedback everywhere it was played, especially in Latin America. In the frame of the world wide ganja legalisation movement and the new approach that many countries adopt, we decided to re-release the tune for free download, raising awareness ….. but of course we added that extra Dubophonic touch.

This is not the first time that Dubophonic released a remix album, but this is the first time that it was done in such an interactive way. This release is a result of a competition, which has been running for the last two months. Every artist had the opportunity to submit their own version of the song (remix, dub, rework). We received around 40 submissions and we would like to thank everybody for their contribution. Unfortunately we could not put all mixes on the release ... but you know that dub music has nothing to do with competition. It has to do with the message we spread and with the vibes, and that big feedback proved that dub music has no borders. It is an international movement, growing stronger day by day. Big up to each and every one for the great vibes and also for the hard times you gave us, till we came to the final decision. Every version we received was unique!

The final selection was done by the Dubophonic crew, Mr Zebre, Rebel-I and a team of djs and selectors from various radio stations, who all casted their votes and compiled the list of the 13 tracks who made the final cut: Heavyweight names like Professor Skank (GR) and Al Breadwinner (UK), Dubophonic residents Mexican Stepper (MEX), Med Dred (CY) and Negritage (ARG), but also fresh rising artists like Zentash Gigawatt (BIH), Djiman (FR), Atlas Dub (FR), Sub Majesty (SUI), Injectah (RO), Dub Riots (GR), SKG’s Dub Alliance (GR), R3di the Dub Hermit (UK/CY), Colonial FX (IRL) and Dj Rastacore (ARG). Munay Ki Dub ft Rebel-I - Andes Dub

Munay Ki Dub is an electronic dub trio, representing a new breed of dub artists. Hailing up from the mountains of central Argentina, they combine live instruments such as violin, melodica, percussion, bass and guitar with programming, effects and digital instruments. The name comes from the South American Quechua language and means “I Love Dub”.

Andes Dub is a collaboration between Munay Ki Dub and Peruvian artist Rebel-I. The song evokes the importance of Andean culture, its intimate relationship with nature and core beliefs. Musically, the tune explores the stepper style and is infused with synthesisers, flute and conscious lyrics delivered by Rebel-I.

Recorded in the mystical AKS studio of French producer Mr Zebre in Lima, Peru, mixed by Alejo González in the MKD studio in Córdoba, Argentina, and mastered by Alejo González and Martin Ventura (bithous). Music by Alejo González. Lyrics by Alvaro Olivares

Mexican Stepper - Run & Tell REMIXED

After his first release on Dubophonic and following his recent European tour, the international artist from Mexico Yasser Serano, better known as Mexican Stepper, returns with another heavyweight track. Based on the same concept of the Mad Sunday EP, Yasser introduces his new tune “Run & Tell” and calls in these times of tribulation the Peruvian singer Rebel-I for vocal assistance, running and telling to the four corners of the world that Babylon is falling down. Originally the title track has been included in Mexican Stepper’s digital LP “Piramide del Sol” from last year released on the French netlabel Original Dub Gathering.

Since Dubophonic likes to experiment and stir things together, we have called assistance from our extended family of artists and asked them to spread the conscious message of the tune in their own style and fashion. The result was twelve exclusive versions of the original tune, reconstructed and mixed all around the world, strengthening the bonds and proving one more time, that conscious dub music is an international thing. Among all versions there is one special dubplate by Mexican Stepper and five remixes by Injham (FR), Thriakis Dub Destroyer (FR), Koncrete Roots (UK), JahYu (GER) and Mr Zebre (FR), as well as six alternative cuts/dubs by Du3normal (HUN), Holy Sound Crew (FR), Murjah Warriors (ITA), Dubios (GER), Mr Mefistou (PR) and Ktopp (GER).

Which is your favourite? You may prefer Mr Zebre’s warrior style vibration or the rootically inspired remix of Thriakis Dub Destroyer. Perhaps it’s the organic skunking melody of the Murjah Warriors, armed with a mandolin and a melodica ina “Renaissance” steppa style, that will carry you away inna cloud of irieness … or the heavy vibrations of Koncrete Roots and Injham. Perhaps the correct question should be “Which one is our favourite?” Well, all twelve versions are heavy enough to set Babylon on fire. So play them LOUD! It remains to you to discover the vibes hidden behind each version!

Open call for the 1st Dubophonic remix "competition"

It is official, the 1st remix "competition" by Dubophonic has started and everybody can participate. This is an open call to all artists, sounds, producers, singers and players of instruments. Courtesy of Mr. Zebre and  Rebel-I, we will proceed with re-releasing a legendary tune, produced by Mr. Zebre some years ago.

The original version of LEGAL has been released back in 2012, receiving some amazing airplay, especially in Latin America. In the frame of the world wide legalisation movement, we have decided to re-release the tune for free download, but of course we will add that extra dubophonic touch by remixing it, dubbing it or even doing a complete rework.

... and everybody can participate. Just send us an email including some links to listen to your sound and we will answer you back with all the details on this project. You will get all necessary files to work on your mix. The best ones will be included in this digital online release, alongside some new heavyweight versions by Professor Skank, Mexican Stepper, Fleck, Mr. Zebre himself and many more. 

Once the contest is ended, all submitted remixes will be saved in our archive and those not released may be used in future Dubophonic compilations. It is prohibited to release the tune in any format anywhere else and all rights are reserved to Mr Zebre and Rebel-I. It is nevertheless allowed the use of the mixes exclusively for live acts and dj sets.

Last submission date is the 28th of February. So start dubbing it, remixing it, or reworking it from scratch with new instruments and alternative vocals in your own language on the same subject. Let the dub games begin!

Various Artists - Reggae Sunjam

The Reggae Sunjam Festival is being held every summer in August in Cyprus. It has been running since 2016 and it's aiming to be the biggest reggae gathering on the island of Cyprus. Organized by Dubophonic, the independent production team Easy Going Productions and Suzie Selecta the festival strongly supports the local reggae-dub scene, while it is dynamically reinforced every year with special international guests.

Artists like Professor Skank (GR), Dub Riots (GR), King Of Eye (UK), Haji Mike (CY), Dub Thomas (CY), Sensijam (CY), Med Dred (CY)  are just a few of the artists who attended the festival in the first 2 years of its life. The release is enriched with the music of Negritage (ARG), Bagjuice (NL), SKG's Dub Alliance (GR), Mr Zebre (FR), Red Star Martyrs (UK) and Rebel-I (PER).

This is a sweet memory of the great vibrations we had in these 2 years and we would like to thank all artists for the warm support and the massive crowd who was there to dance and celebrate with us. We love you all and we look forward to continue spreading the positive vibes, making this event the leading reggae festival in Cyprus!

Red Star Martyrs - Red Star Martyrs

The UK producer Stanley Woodfield, better known under the project-name Red Star Martyrs, has been one of the most active artists since the start of our label.  After having released two EPs, “I & I” (2013) and “Time for Tea” (2014) and contributing in the compilation “United as One (2014), there was a silence for nearly 2 years.  It has been a constructive silence … and today we are happy to announce his first long player. We have been saving this one for you to be our last release of 2016.

The self-titled digital LP includes 14 brand new tracks of total length of 63 minutes from the producer who has managed to set his own sound-mark on our label. Rootikal vibes with a twist and melodic dubwise sounds with live instruments played mainly by Stanley himself are the key ingredients of his style. Guest appearances by I-Rebel, Don Goliath, Madi Simmons, Tallis, Trinity, Kontent, Squidgy Black and Penti from Senti. Give thanks! R.I.P. Fidel, Hasta la Victoria Siempre!

Some great news today! We have just been informed that the label has been nominated for the Dub Awards Mexico 2016. Organised by Dubnight FM & Radio Zapote 102.1FM, the nominations are devided in 8 diferrent categories and include names like OBF, Radikal Guru, Gary Clank, Zion Train, Imperial Sound Army, Brain Damage, Dub Syndicate, Vibronics and many more.

Dubophonic is nominated in category nr. 5 for the award of the Best Compilation/Remix Album (Mejor álbum acoplado) for last year's release Run and Tell REMIXED by Mexican Stepper and Rebel-I, which is also available for pre-orders on limited 7inch vinyl. 

We are feeling honored for this nomination, a big thing for a small label from Cyprus! We would be very happy if you can support us and VOTE FOR DUBOPHONIC (you must vote also in all other categories, in order for your vote to count). Dubophonic travels to Japan

Blessed Vibrations ina Spring time. This is the time of the "Sakura", the time of the year when the cherry trees blossom. Dub Thomas representing the Dubophonic family, travels from 4-17th April to the land of the rising sun to spread the positive vibrations and promote the sound of our family. What a perfect time to enjoy the awakening of the Spring and do with our Jah-pan family some joyful dub sessions.

We start on the 5th of April 2015 with Rebel Skunk Sunday, a five hour live session, from 13:00 - 18:00, in the town of Hanno, Saitama Perfecture, Tokyo. Hosted by the Rebel Skunk Warriors (Jahvaneeze, Deeco, DubLaugh/SkyBirdSound) and alongside Direct Impact, we let the vibes flow at Paddock Pass.  One Scoop, One Turntable, One Vibe! Powered by the Yellow suite Mini Set ina rebel skunking style! Free Entrance! Run and Tell evryone!

Next stop: the Tokyo metropolis. It is a blessing that the Dubophonic sound will be blasted through the soundsystem of the oldest and most respected reggae club in Tokyo, Club Open, located in the bustling Shinjuku district. On the 10th of April come ina di dance and enjoy an all night session of Rasta-far-I culture sounds with lives by the band Jahspells, guest djs Mathew Tagood (Monte Bailanta) and Dub Thomas (Dubophonic) and resident Dj's Luv Kiyoshi, Iwa-T, Katsu, Misato and our bredren Big H, father figure and originator of the japan reggae scene.

We then travel back to Hanno City on the 12th of April in a place called "Ebisu Cafe" and from there we do a special radio broadcast for Versionist Radio alongside Direct Impact and many special guests in an open mic style. All tribes are welcome to join us, but even if you are not in in Japan, just tune in from 11:00am - 14:00pm UK time and celebrate with us on this special day, Dub Thomas celebrating his 50th birthday. So if you are near just drop by and be part of the party!

Mexican Stepper returns on Dubophonic

After the first release of Mexican Stepper on Dubophonic back in the year 2013, the world established artist from Mexico is preparing his new work. As a first step, the netlabel will re-release the track "Run and Tell", which was originally included on Mexican Stepper's first LP "Teotihuacan [Pirámide del Sol]", released by the artist himself ... but of course there will be a twist! 

The new release, in the format of digital EP, will be out end of February and will consist of special remixes and dubs of the tune, exclusive produced for Dubophonic! Artists like Rebel-I and Fyachief will spread the vocal message of the tune and nuff remixes and dubs are already being produced while you read this: Mr. Zebre, Koncrete Roots, Du3normal, Thriakis Dub Destroyer, Injham, Holy Sound and Mr Mefistou are just a few of them ... and because we love you, we will include an exclusive mix of the original tune ina Dubphonic dubplate style and fashion ... and this is only the start. Brand new tunes by Mexican Stepper coming in Spring time. In these times of economical crisis and tribulation, it's time for RASTAS to TAKE OVER!!!

Dubophonic meets Dubkey - United As One

The idea of collaborating with other netlabels has been long into the minds of Dub Thomas from Dubophonic and Manwel Tabone from Dubkey Records. Like a netlabel is a family of artists under a common roof, the two originators wanted to expand this family idea on the next level, creating an expanded family between the netlabels themselves. This is the first step for more collaboration between like-minded artists

The result of this collaboration is more than just a mere compilation of tracks. All the tunes have been written and produced from scratch, exclusive for this release and the riddims were written by the artists of both labels. The “raw” material was exchanged between the two netlabels, the vocal messages were added and then once again the tracks travelled back to the other side for the dubs and remixes. So basically every single track has been made with the contribution of artists from both sides in an organic and productive way.

The release consists of 4 riddims by Red Star Martyrs, Ashley, Med Dred and Negritage, all presented in 4 different cuts each. Vocalised by Zion Irie & Singer Tempa and dubbed/mixed accordingly ina roots and culture style. Special mixes were included by Jah Rootikal Steppers and Manwel Tabone himself. Nuff respect FDub Caravan for the live bass and guitars on the Roots-o-pohonic riddim (tracks 9 & 10). Last but definitely not least, the irie melodica of Mind’s Eye Dub on the Negritage riddim, blows away the badness and sends positive vibrations of I-nity and One-ness.

Roots Masashi - Namah Shivaya

Roots Masashi is a Roots Rock / New Roots composer from Osaka, Japan. He drew his inspiration from friends in high school and fell in love with conscious reggae music.  He was fascinated by Osaka’s dub scene, especially after meeting the “Dub I Roots Crew” and “Rebel Culture” in 2012 and soon after, he started building “Roots Far I”, his own Sound System and Digital Live project, based in Kishiwada of South Osaka. His devotion to Roots Rock Reggae, New Roots and Dub guided him all around Japan, touring with the soundsystem and urging him to reach new musical heights

His first release on Dubophonic Records is a musical and holy salutation to the Auspicious, an adoration to the Most High. Based on one of the most important Mantras in the Shaivism tradition, Namah Shivaya is associated with qualities of prayer, divine-love, grace, truth, and blissfulness. It calms the mind and brings spiritual insight and knowledge. Traditionally, it is accepted to be a powerful healing mantra beneficial for all physical and mental ailments. “Na” sound represents the earth, “Mah” sound represents the water, “Shi” sound represents the fire, “Va” sound represents the air and “Ya” sound represents thesky. Its total meaning is that "universal consciousness is one". The recitation of these syllables is sound therapy for the body and nectar for the inner self and the soul.
